You can make significant savings in energy, costs and emissions by buying the most energy efficient appliances, as they can become less efficient over time and newer models are usually more efficient to begin with.

Appliances consuming the most energy include fridges, washing machines, dryers, stoves and dishwashers. These purchases can be expensive, but you can stagger the buying of more efficient appliances over a period of, say, five years, taking account of when they would have had to be replaced anyway.

Livewell started as an action research project funded by the Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) for Low Carbon Living, delivered through Curtin University and supported by the City of Yarra and Yarra Energy Foundation. Further funding was then provided by the CRC to produce the online Guide to running a ‘Livewell Group’
